The original Diamond King Jackpots is not the most popular release, but it’s far from the least popular as well. Releasing a gold version might change that, but we’re unsure if this is enough of an upgrade to make a huge difference for players. Diamond King Gold is visually very similar to the original, and the math model is pretty much the same as well.
You can now expand the Power Range frame also in the base game however, via the random Roar feature, and this awards higher multiplier wilds up to x5. Wilds are collected to eventually fill the jackpot game meter, and you get a symbol upgrade system bolted on in the bonus round. The volatility is a tad higher, the top-tier RTP is the same, and the overall 10,240x potential is also similar.
Diamond King Gold Slot Features
The symbols are worth a tad less in this Gold version, and the premium animal symbols pay between 2 and 8 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins. Diamond Wilds step in for pay symbols to help complete wins, and the wilds are also collected in the Diamond Meter (more about that below).
The 3 middle reels are framed by the Power Range box in the center positions (row 2 and 3), and all Diamond Wilds that land inside the box are upgraded with an x2 multiplier. The multiplier applies to all wins the wilds take part in, and the contribution to the diamond meter is multiplied by the wild multiplier as well.
At random times, you’ll hear the lion on the left-hand side roar, and this initiates the Roar Feature. The Power Range will then expand to fully cover the 3 middle reels, and all wilds that appear will be upgraded with multipliers of x2, x3 or x5.
When the Diamond Meter above the grid is completely filled, you trigger the Diamond Jackpot feature. This can only happen in the base game, and you will then get to pick from a selection of diamonds on a new screen. The picking goes on until you’ve matched up 3 of the same color, and this awards the correspond prize:
- Green Diamond Jackpot - awards 20x your stake.
- Purple Diamond Jackpot - awards 50x your stake.
- Red Diamond Jackpot - awards 200x your stake.
- Yellow Diamond Jackpot - awards 5,000x your stake.
The Bonus Round triggers when you land 3, 4 or 5 scatter anywhere in view, and this gives you 10, 15 or 20 free spins, respectively. The Roar Feature is always active in the bonus round, giving you a larger Power Range box and higher wild multipliers on each spin.
A special Gold Lion may land in the bonus round only, and this symbol is collected in the 4 animal symbols meters above the grid. You need 4 gold lions to fill one animal meter, and each full meter upgrades an animal symbol to the top-tier lion symbol for the remainder of the bonus round. You win +5, +10+, +15 or +20 extra spins if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 scatters on a free spin, respectively.

Review Summary
The upgrades may seem a bit subtle at first, but there is just about enough here to justify a gold version. The random Roar Feature in the base game is a nice touch, for example, as it gives you occasional higher value spins that can also boost the diamond meter. Audiovisually, there's hardly any difference at all, but the lion and the grid have moved to a different location of the savannah.
The Jackpot feature is the same as well, so the biggest difference is found in the bonus round. It’s the same feature as before, but with the added symbol upgrade system. This can make a big difference if you manage to upgrade multiple symbols, and not least if all of them are turned into the lion. The max win is still hovering above 10,000x, but the volatility is a tad higher. Overall, we prefer this gold version if we had to choose.
