Crystal Quest Frostlands Review
From the damp jungle of Mesoamerica, to climbing underground city towers, Gemma is back on another daring adventure in Crystal Quest: Frostlands. This time you’re hunting gemstones in a biting cold arctic climate, where all the symbols are frozen in ice. Massive 3x3 blocks can crush their way down the reels, which is a satisfactory sight to behold, but pretty much everything else is similar to the 2 previous installments.
The symbol values have been trimmed down to 1/4 of the previous games though, and this tells you something about how potent these massive symbols can be. The unlimited avalanche win multiplier still keeps the base game interesting, and the math model is still solid. We had perhaps hoped for a bit more originality, but it’s understandable that some things are saved for later releases in what’s probably gonna be a longer series.
Crystal Quest: Frostlands Features
The avalanche feature removes winning symbols from the reels, and a fresh batch of symbols drop down to possibly trigger more winning combos. If that’s the case, the avalanche feature continues indefinitely until you hit a non-winning spin, and you also have wilds to help you out in that regard.
There is a progressive multiplier in play at all stages of the game, and it starts at 1x. The multiplier increases with +1 per avalanche win, and it resets to 1x again when you hit a non-winning spin in the base game.
The brand new feature in this 3rd installment in the Crystal Quest series is Massive Symbols. All symbols except wilds and scatters can land in massive sizes of 2x2 or 3x3, and they will crush all symbols below when they land.
You need 3 of the spiky treasure chest scatters on the same spin to trigger the Bonus Round. This awards 12 free spins, while any extra scatters above the minimum of 3 gives you +3 additional spins per extra scatter. The bonus round comes with a couple of extras that you don’t get to benefit from in the base game.
First of all, the progressive multiplier is still active, but now it will not reset between spins. This means that it will only grow larger, and there is no upper limit as to how high it can go. Then you also have the Wild Explosion feature, and this triggers on non-winning spins where wilds are present.
The wild (or wilds) will then explode, removing all symbols horizontally and vertically except scatters. This triggers a new avalanche which might stretch your winning streak. Landing 2 scatters on a bonus round spin awards +3 extra spins, and you also get +2 on top of that for each extra scatter above the minimum of 2.

Review Summary
After the second installment in Crystal Quest series, Arcane Tower, we suspected where this was going. Crystal Quest: Frostlands has confirmed our suspicion, and we have now accepted that this will most likely be a series with minor feature tweaks per release. Many do similar things, and all releases so far are of high build quality with a solid 15,000x potential.
Fans of the series will most likely gobble this 3rd installment up, even though the symbol values have been lowered a bit to compensate for the massive symbol blocks you can land. The bonus round can go on for a good while due to the avalanche wins, and the exploding wilds will come to the rescue when you least expect it. Overall, a decent follow-up title, but we don’t hold it past the creative Swedes to suddenly conjure up something totally unexpected at the next crossroads.

Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower - is the first follow-up in the Gemma series, and you’ll join the fierce redhead in an underground adventure. The novel feature here is the Linked Reels, and you get exploding wilds in the bonus round that also come with an unlimited progressive multiplier.
Carnival Queen - is a highly potent slot that has been somewhat forgotten. It’s all about the progressive avalanche win multiplier in this game, and you stand to win up to 22,700x your stake in the bonus round.
