It feels like forever since the first Wonderways installment was released, but we still have the game fresh in mind due to the unusual setup. Cossacks the Wild Hunt comes with a somewhat unusual theme, at least ethnically, and the setup is not exactly orthodox either. The blocker tiles on the outer reel zone creates a dynamic reels experience, somewhere in the same ballpark as the Megaways engine (but then again, not quite).
Turning off these blockers is far from being cheap, and we are uncertain whether or not paying 5x extra per spin is worth it. In addition to the progressive cascading reels multiplier, a couple of random modifiers keeps the base game alive, while everything comes to a head in the bonus round. Overall, a pretty solid production, and it’s certainly more balanced than the predecessor was in terms of win ways and potential.
Cossacks the Wild Hunt Slot Features
The Wonderways system is active on each spin, and the number of inactive blocker symbols you land on the outer reel zone determines the number of win ways up to 46,656 at the most. A ‘W’ wild can land to help you complete winning lines by stepping in for all regular pay symbols.
You can pay 5x the regular stake per spin, and this removes all blocker symbols and maximizes the number of win ways on each spin. You win by landing adjacent symbols from left to right, and the payout is multiplied by the number of matching symbols per reel.
Every win triggers the Cascading Reels feature, where winning symbols are cleared to be replaced by new and/or existing symbols dropping from above. This goes for the outer zone too, and each cascade increases the win multiplier by +1. The feature goes on as long as you keep winning.
The To Arms! feature triggers at random times, and arrows will hit certain symbols to award a 6-oak win. In a similar fashion, the ‘Release the Wilds’ feature triggers blades that are thrown at random positions on the grid, and these turn all affected symbols into wilds.
You trigger the Bonus Round by landing 4 scatters that spell out the word “HUNT” on reels 2 to 5. This awards 8 free spins, plus 2 extra spins on top of that per extra scatter you land above the minimum. The progressive win multiplier increases by +1 per win, and does not reset during the feature. You get +3 free spins for every 4 axe symbols you collect (reels 2 to 5 only).
Non-UK players can purchase the bonus round from the in-game menu. You then have 3 options as follows:

Paying 5x more per spin to play with the maximum number of win ways seems a bit steep, but at least you have the option. The base game is kept interesting by a couple of random features combined with a progressive win multiplier, and everything is enhanced in the bonus round when the multiplier just keeps building. Overall, this is a pretty entertaining and audiovisually pleasing follow-up, and we look forward to seeing future installments in the series.
