The Ancient World had seven wonders, and one of them was known as the Colossus of Rhodes. It was a massive bronze statue the size of the Statue of Liberty, erected to pay homage to the all-seeing Greek sun god, Helios. The statue was destroyed a long time ago however, but it played a central part in Helios Fury, and now in Colossus: Hold & Win. It’s not animated in this release though, but it figures on the expanding multiplier wild symbols.
These expanding wilds are the only thing keeping you warm in the base game, not least when a decent multiplier is assigned to them from the right-hand-side Colossus Rising Flame. This sacred flame dishes out multipliers that affect all sticky cash coins in the Hold & Win bonus round, and you need to fill the grid completely to stand a chance at landing the 10,000x Colossus Jackpot.
Colossus: Hold & Win Slot Features
The premium symbols pay between 3.5 and 20 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the expanding multiplier Wild can land on all reels except the first. The wild expands to fill the entire reel when it lands, and it comes with a random multiplier of x2, x3, x5 or x10. The multiplier is assigned by the Colossus Rising Flame, which also plays a central part in the Hold & Win bonus round.
You need 6+ gold coin symbols anywhere in view to trigger the Hold & Win feature, and the triggering coins become sticky on an otherwise cleared grid. Only new coins or blanks will land during the feature, and all new coins that land become sticky as the respins tally resets to 3 again. Your total win is summed up if you run out of respins before the grid is full of coins.
The Colossus Rising Flame comes into play at random times before the Hold & Win feature starts, whenever a new coin lands and/or when the bonus ends. A multiplier of x2, x3, x5 or x10 is then applied to all present cash coins. You can get the multiplier feature multiple times per bonus round.
If you manage to completely fill the grid with sticky cash coins, the Colossus Spin feature is triggered. This means that you’re guaranteed to win 1 of the 3 jackpots on display above the grid, and the whole grid turns into a giant wheel that spins to randomly assign one of them. These are the Minor, Major and Colossus jackpots, and they pay 50x, 500x and 10,000x your stake, respectively.
Finally, non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can take advantage of the Colossus Bet feature. This is a bonus buy option, and it will cost you 100x your stake to be guaranteed at least 6 triggering gold coins on the spin that follows. The Hold & Win round triggers organically once every 182 spins on average.

Review Summary
The base game is pretty barebones, just like the Hold & Win feature also is, but it’s possible to land larger payouts due to the expanding multiplier wilds feature. You’re basically just grinding along until a wild or two hits, or hopefully all 4 possible reels will be covered in wilds, but most of the time you get top-up wins anyway. This is how it usually works, but closing in on the 10,000x potential is theoretically possible also in the base game.
In practice, however, you’ll probably need the 10,000x Colossus Jackpot to get there, like we did, and you get whatever coin money you’ve racked up in addition to the jackpot. The random Colossus Rising Flame multiplier comes in handy at times, but the pace of the whole Hold & Win feature is kind of slow. A decent math model and audiovisual experience saves the day here, but it’s still a somewhat mediocre effort in the overcrowded hold and win genre.
