Christmas Big Bass Bonanza Review
The original Big Bass Bonanza has been a massive success, and they have since released several interesting and beefed-up versions. Not least the Megaways version is noteworthy, and it’s probably a better alternative unless you’re really into the whole Xmas seasonal reskin job concept.
What you get in Christmas Big Bass Bonanza is basically the original game with a Holidays makeover, as both the math model and the features are identical to the first release. Fish with Santa hats, as well as the Santa fisherman wild, might charm some players, but it will probably annoy others. The core gameplay is fun either way, and having a whirl or two while waiting for the Xmas dinner to get started is not the worst way to kill some time.
Christmas Big Bass Bonanza Features
Those familiar with the original can probably skip this part, as the core feature is exactly the same. The base game does not come with wilds, and a 5-oak win with premium symbols pays between 20 and 200 x your stake.
You need 3, 4 or 5 fish scatters in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and this awards 10, 15 or 20 free spins, respectively. The Fish scatters land with random cash values attached during the feature, and the prizes are collected if you land the Santa Wild at the same time. Being wild, the Santa symbol also steps in for regular pay symbols to help complete wins.
Of course, the wild symbol itself is also collected in the meter above the grid, and every 4th wild collected retriggers the bonus round with +10 additional spins. In addition, the cash fish multiplier is increased from x1 to x2, x3 and x10 if you collect 3 x 4 wilds, and you cannot retrigger the bonus round more than 3 times. Cash fish may be randomly added to the grid if you land a Wild without any fish.
The 200 Spins Christmas Big Bass Bonanza Experience
You get to see a larger base game payout, before we finally trigger the bonus round close to the 1:30-mark. The feature plays out for the remainder of the 2:48-minute highlights video, and you can check it all out for yourself by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
Some themes combine better with the whole Xmas makeover than others, and Christmas Big Bass Bonanza comes across as a bit too artificial in our view. Sure, trouts with red santa hats are charming enough, but it also looks kind of silly when you think about it. Beneath the Xmas skin you’ll find the exact same game as the original Big Bass Bonanza, and there are better alternatives to consider for sure.
The recent Megaways version is a solid installment for example, and so is the Bigger Bass Bonanza follow-up. If you enjoy the Holidays theme this version might be for you, but this is a typical reskin job that we see many of at this time of year. Catching cash fish and upgrading the multiplier is always fun though, but when few or no Santa Wilds land the bonus round is a real anti-climax.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| FS w/ wild collecting fish prizes | Seasonal reskin of Big Bass Bonanza |
| Wild meter awards multiplier + extra spins | Beware of adjustable RTP ranges |
