Bounty Hunters Review
This developer has created some memorable Wild West slots already, but this doesn’t stop them from taking another stab at this genre. Bounty Hunters is not as dark as some of their other games, but you will be eliminating thugs and bosses in large numbers in the bonus rounds. This is how the hunters collect the bounty prizes for you, and there is base game action to be found as well.
Visually, Bounty Hunters is a step down from previous wild west installments, but the soundtrack is solid. The base game grid is surprisingly “ordinary” as well, but you don’t mind too much when full-reel wilds nudge in place to increase their additive win multiplier and trigger respins. Multiplier wilds take center stage in the Mexican Standoff feature as well, and the top-tier Showdown FS round is your best shot at cracking the generous 52,310x potential.
Bounty Hunters Slot Features
The xBet feature can be turned on between base game spins, and it will cost you 200 % extra per spin to keep it on. The benefit is that it “increases your chances of triggering different features”. The ante bet RTP is 96.34 %. Premium symbols pay between 1.25 and 5 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and Wild symbols step in for any pay symbol to help complete and/or improve wins. Wilds pay the same as the top-tier dual pistols symbol.
The Bounty Hunter Wild covers full reels, and it always nudges fully in place when it appears. It will land on reels 2, 3, and 4 only, and the wild multiplier increases by +1 per nudge. If you get more than one bounty hunter wild with a multiplier involved in a win, the multipliers are added together before boosting the win.
The A Few Dollars More feature triggers when you land a Bounty Hunter Wild symbol fully in view, and the Bounty Hunter Wild becomes sticky for a respin. This process repeats for as long as you keep landing new Bounty Hunter Wilds, and this can fill the 3 middle reels with bounty hunter wilds.
The Mexican Standoff feature triggers from 2 bonus symbols on the same row, and only the triggering row is active for the respin that follows. The triggering symbols turn into x6 multiplier wilds, and the bounty hunter wild becomes an x6 multiplier wild if it appears as well. Bonus symbols act as wilds as well, and they award extra respins while becoming sticky. Multipliers from sticky wilds multiply together.
You need 3 scatters on reels 2, 3, and 4 to trigger the Raid Spins Bonus Round, and you get the top-tier Showdown Spins Bonus Round if the triggering scatters appear on the same row as 2 bonus symbols. The bonus symbols land on reels 1 and 5 only, except during the Mexican Standoff feature where they can also land on reels 2, 3, and 4.
The Raid Spins FS round plays out on a 5x4 grid where only blanks and Thugs or Bosses appear. On either side are 5-position reels where Hunters appear, and you start with 3 respins. The respins tally resets each time you land a Thug or Boss, and thugs come with cash prize values of 1x to 25x your stake.
The closest Hunter eliminates any thug, while collecting the prize. Hunters come with multipliers up to x12, which boosts the prize, and the multiplier value increases for each kill/collect they make. The multipliers reset if the hunters do not collect, however, except for the bottom reel hunters which never reset.
The Boss symbols come with coin values between 1 and 5, and Boss 1 absorbs all values from other symbols. Boss 2 adds its own value to all thugs on the current spin, Boss 3 multiplies the values of a selected group, and it starts at x2 while increasing by +1 per selected thug. If the Hunters manage to eliminate all bosses you’ll be upgraded to the Showdown FS round, but this only happens when you’re also out of Raid Spins.
The Showdown Bonus Round plays out somewhat similar to the Raid Spins feature, but you get a 5x5 grid with a Hard Honcho Boss in the central position. He is surrounded by 12 Thugs in a diamond shape formation, and you start with 3 respins here as well. The respins tally resets per new thug that lands, and the Hard Honcho Boss starts out with a 6x value. He serves the same function as the 3 bosses in the Raid Spins feature, and this varies per free spin:
- As Boss 1, the Hard Honcho Boss absorbs prize values.
- As Boss 2, the Hard Honcho Boss adds its value to all Thugs.
- As Boss 3, the Hard Honcho Boss boosts the value of a selected group.
Collecting the Hard Honcho Boss fills all empty thug positions with new thugs for the next spin.
The Bonus Buy menu is available in some jurisdictions, but not in the UK for sure. It comes with the following 4 options this time:
- The Mexican Standoff - pay 136x the stake to get this feature (96.07 % top-tier RTP).
- Raid Spins - pay 100x the stake to get this (96.14 % top-tier RTP).
- Showdown Spins - pay 850x the stake to get this (96.09 % top-tier RTP).
- The Lucky Draw - pay 175x to get a 1/10 chance of the Showdown and 9/10 chance of the Raid Spins feature.
The 200 Spins Bounty Hunters Slot Experience
You get a brief taste of the base game, before we purchase the Showdown Bonus Round at 0:23 into the 1:52-minute highlights video. The feature plays out for the remainder of the video, which is a brief one this time, and you can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
When you price the ante bet at 200 % on the base game bet, being highly specific about the benefits should be a given. Sadly, this is not the case this time, but we do know that the bonus round hit rate increases from 1 in 330 spins to 1 in 66 spins, which is significant. We assume this is the Raid Spins feature though, and there are no stats on the far more lucrative Showdown Spins round. This is a bit strange, as this developer is known for its transparency.
We have seen wild west slots from this developer, but Bounty Hunters is an action-packed ride to the old frontier for sure. It’s good fun eliminating thugs and bosses in the bonus rounds, and collecting their bounties as you go. The Showdown feature is elusive, as the 52,310x potential is cracked every 8,500 times it triggers. It comes with a 1 in 90K hit rate in the Raid Spins in comparison, and an overall hit rate of 1 in 29M spins. Bounty Hunters is a good alternative to similar games, but it’s as challenging as the times it portrays.
