Astronaut Game Review
Most burst or crash games we have tried are more or less the same, and the concept seemed destined to stay in its lane, so to speak. However, this game has taken a step in a new direction, and you may call it “one small step for man, but a giant leap for online slots”. Okay, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but we couldn’t help ourselves. Either way, Astronaut does things we haven’t seen before, and it resembles a regular slot more than a busta game.
You’re spinning a single reel after all, instead of flying towards ever higher prizes. You need to land green crystals to keep climbing the prize ladder, and avoid the red crystal like the plague. The Golden Shield is another innovative touch, and it gives you free ride until the next red crystal which you are protected against. It also triggers Advanced Mode for even better prizes, and the 48,000x potential is the second highest in the burst/crash genre so far.
Astronaut Features & How to Play
There are no regular reels in this game, but you get a floating crystal in-between 2 prize ladders. You start by selecting your bet level between 10p and £2 per round, and hitting the play button spins the “reel” between the two prize ladders. You will land either a green or red crystal when the reel stops spinning, or a golden shield.
The green crystal means you can continue to climb the prize ladder, if you wish, or you can cash out or take half. Here’s an overview of your options:
- Continue - stake 100 % of your current winnings in another spin.
- Take Half - cash out 50 % of your current winnings, and continue with a new spin with 50 % of your winnings staked.
- Collect - cash out all winnings from the current round, which means the round ends.
The more green crystals you land, the bigger is your chances of landing the red crystal. Each green crystal you land takes you further up the prize ladder, which gives you greater and greater prizes if you choose to continue spinning the reel. If you land the red crystal you go bust, and the round ends. This means that all your winnings are lost, unless you choose to cash out half before.
The Golden Shield is the game’s only “bonus feature” as such, and this shield offers protection from the red crystal. It triggers automatic spins until you hit the red crystal, and this destroys the shield. The game shifts to advanced mode with enhanced prizes after this, and you can choose to collect half, continue, or cash out as you see fit.
Review Summary
This game has added some clever twists in their outer space effort. It resembles a slot more than most, if not all, similar crash games for one, since you’re spinning what amounts to a single reel. However, unlike with most slots, you cannot land the game’s admittedly solid max win from a single spin. The Golden Shield is almost like a bonus round though, which is innovative, as it gives you a free pass up the prize ladder.
Most players enjoy the idea that big riches can be right around the next corner. Not so with Astronaut, however, and you need nerves of steel to keep climbing the prize ladder after a certain level has been achieved. Going all the way to 18,000x (or 48,000x in Advanced mode) takes the same courage as a moon mission, but it helps that you can cash out half along the way. Overall, a decent attempt at merging slots with the busta concept, and it may appeal to a certain daring crowd.
