It’s clear that the company has a master plan. They trademarked an area feature in their debut release, and Area Blast™ Double Bass comes with yet another trademarked area feature. The two releases and features are hardly similar, however, and this game takes you on an idyllic fishing expedition with retro visuals and a prize collection feature that’s brand new to the popular genre.

You get to collect plenty of fish prizes also in the base game in Area Blast Double Bass, and this happens when one or two full-reel bass symbols nudge in place. You get respins as long as new fish prizes appear, and the progressive multiplier becomes active if you lock 2 bass symbols in place on reels 1 and 5. The bonus round offers more of the same, and jackpots up to 5,000x can be won in the randomly triggered jackpot pick game.

Area Blast Double Bass Slot Features

The premium symbols award between 2 and 5 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and they consist of hats, life vests, fishing rods, tackle boxes, and a fishing boat. The royals all pay 1x your stake for the same, and the Wild symbol steps in for any pay symbol to help complete and/or improve line wins. Once again, all fish prize symbols are awarded, and any new partially in view big green bass symbol will nudge fully in place. This process repeats as long as you land new fish prize symbols, and the fish prize multiplier increases by +1 per respin. You need to lock in place 2 big green bass symbols to activate this multiplier, however.

The Area Blast Double Bass Slot Bonus Round triggers from 3 scatters anywhere in view, and this gives you 10 free spins. The Area Blast Feature triggers the same way as in the base game, with big green bass symbols nudging fully in view when they appear. You can expect the Area Blast feature to trigger more frequently during the bonus round, or at least that’s our experience, and you cannot win extra spins nor retrigger the feature.

In the base game, all prize symbols that land outside of the Area Blast feature are collected in the fisherman’s bobber. These prizes are not paid, however, but each time there is a chance you’ll trigger the Pick Feature. You will then pick from bobber icons, and you win the corresponding jackpot prize when 3 prize icons are matched up. The retro visuals are charming enough, and the peaceful lake setting sets the stage for some prize collection action.

The Area Blast feature is innovative, and well worth the trademark, and we like that the bass symbols always nudge fully in place to trigger it. It allows for fun prize collection respins in the base game, but it can be frustrating when you get to a solid multiplier without securing that elusive second bass symbol to activate it. You get even more of the same in the bonus round, and the pick game rewards loyal players once in a while. The 5,000x potential is solid enough, but we’re unsure if there is enough here to make a huge splash in such a competitive genre.
