Andvari: The Magic Ring Review
The most interesting thing about this game is the backstory, as we have never seen a slot based around Andvari before. Andvari is a dwarf from Norse mythology, and he lived inside a waterfall. His golden ring had the power to attract more gold to itself, so he had a massive amount of gold (as depicted in this game). He could also turn himself into a pike, and this is how he was caught by Loki on a fishing trip. Loki took his ring and his gold, and Andvari cursed it and said it would bring misfortune to anyone who possessed it.
He is even depicted with a surfboard in this game, which is some artistic freedom, but we only wish more creativity had gone into the feature department. You get a LockNWin round with 3 power up symbols, and it seems to trigger more often in the otherwise non-eventful bonus round. A Magic Wheel spin comes about from collecting bonus symbols, and you can land a 5,000x jackpot. The max win is 13,500x your stake, but we still think Andvari deserves a more original game than this.
Andvari: The Magic Ring Slot Features
The premium symbols pay between 3 and 10 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the Wild symbol steps in for any pay symbol to help complete and/or improve wins. Other than that, this game comes with a free spins round and a LockNWin feature.
You need at least 6 bonus symbols in view to trigger the LockNWin feature, and the triggering symbols become sticky on an otherwise cleared grid. You start with 3 respins, and new bonus symbols become sticky and resets the respins tally each time. The bonus symbols are worth between 1 and 25 x your stake, and there are 2 different LockNWin power up symbols that can appear as well:
- LockNWin Multiplier Upgrade - boosts all bonus symbols by up to x10.
- LockNWin Magic Prize Upgrade - upgrades all present magic prize jackpots to the next tier.
You can land 5 different Magic Prizes in addition to regular bonus cash symbols, and these are the Mini, Minor, Major, Grand, and Epic prizes worth 50x, 100x, 250x, 1,000x, or 5,000x your stake, respectively.
All bonus symbols that land in the base game are collected, and this will eventually fill the progress bar seen above the reels. When the progress bar is full you get a spin on the Magic Wheel, and this awards either smaller cash prizes, a Magic Prize, or the free spins round.
The Free Spins round also triggers from 3 scatters in view, and this gives you 10 to 30 free spins randomly assigned from a wheel of fortune. You can gamble your free spins on a Gamble & Mystery Wheel if you wish, and this can land you extra free spins. If you lose the gamble the feature is lost, but you get a consolation prize between 10 and 100 x your stake. You can retrigger the bonus round by landing 3 scatters on the same free spin.
Non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can take advantage of the Bonus Buy feature. If eligible, you can purchase the free spins round for 55.02x your stake, or a spin on the Magic Wheel for 33.24x your stake.
The 200 Spins Andvari: The Magic Ring Slot Experience
You get a taste of the base game, before we purchase the free spins round at 0:32 into the 3:20-minute highlights video. We got 10 free spins, and we triggered the LockNWin feature towards the end. You can check it all out for yourself by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
This game has an original backstory, as we have never seen a slot based around Andvari before. We hadn’t even heard of this Norse mythology dwarf before doing research for this review, but the feature department doesn’t really live up to the originality of the theme. You get fairly standard stuff, although the LockNWin feature comes with somewhat innovative extras.
Being able to upgrade both the cash prizes and the jackpot prizes is appreciated, of course, and the 5,000x Grand Jackpot is a tempting prospect. We doubt a surfboard was involved in the original myth, but Andvardi could certainly afford one. The free spins round seemed to “always” trigger the LockNWin feature when we tested the game, but other than that it comes with no extras. Andvari: The Magic Ring is memorable mostly because of the unusual Norse mythology theme, but other than that this is a fairly standard game.
