The Frankenstein monster has been depicted in countless movies over the years. There aren’t all that many online slots based around the classic gothic tale though, so Alive! Megaways is a welcome effort.

It’s their third installment featuring the BTG-licensed engine so far, and the visual style suits the theme quite well. Despite unusual feature names, the gameplay is pretty standard stuff outside of the Play it Your Way post-bonus gamble feature. You get cascading wins, mystery symbols and a progressive win multiplier in the bonus round. Not exactly a re-invention of the reel, but it all comes together nicely in a release that caters to the daredevil gambler in you.

Alive! Megaways Features

The bottled-up brain is the wild symbol, and it slides in on the top horizontal reel only. The wild steps in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combos, but it holds no value of its own. Landing 6-oak premium payouts award between 1 and 10 times your stake, and all wins trigger the Extra Chance feature.

The Extra Chance is similar to cascading wins, where winning symbols are removed to be replaced by new/existing symbols dropping from above. You get indefinite ‘extra chances’ for new wins, just as long as you keep winning, and the feature ends on a non-winning cascade.

The Dynamic Action Symbol feature works similarly to the standard mystery symbol feature you’ve probably seen many times before. When these symbols land, they transform into a randomly matching pay symbol that might lead to a win.

The Unlimited Multiplier Free Games feature is triggered when you land 3 scatters anywhere on the same spin, and this awards 8 free spins. Any scatters on top of the minimum of 3 awards +4 extra free spins. As the name more than indicates, the feature comes with a progressive win multiplier, and it starts a x1. The multiplier increases by +1 per ‘extra chance’ win, with no upper limit.

You can win 2, 4 or 8 extra spins during the bonus round, and this is done by sliding in 2, 3 or 4 lever symbols on the top reel, respectively. When the Free Games round comes to an end, you can take part in the optional Play it Your Way gamble feature. This gives you 3 options as follows:

• Collect your winnings and go back to the main game.
• Gamble your winnings to get 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 extra free spins. The more spins you gamble for, the lower your chances, and losing means all winnings are lost.
• Bank some of your winnings up front, and gamble the rest to win free spins with a reduced chance.

Review Summary

Alive! Megaways sticks out mostly because of the somewhat unusual Frankenstein theme, which is nicely done by the way, but renaming common features makes little difference in practice. Overall, there is very little new to see here, except for the somewhat innovative ‘Play It Your Way’ post bonus round gamble feature.

This feature can mostly be used to gamble smaller wins (or smaller parts of bigger wins), as we really don’t think that many players are willing to risk a larger payout for some extra spins. The mystery symbols and bonus round with unlimited win multiplier is at the core of many Megaways titles, and the 10,000x potential is decent, but nothing extraordinary for this popular engine.
