After Dark Review
Some studios' releases have been rather unsteady throughout. After Dark won’t change that, either, although it does come with a fair combination of two bonus features. Its playing field is entirely straightforward, on the other hand, featuring 5 reels, 3 rows and 5 paylines.
Many slots suffer from subpar visuals, and we are unfortunately forced to report that After Dark won’t do anything to improve the company’s reputation from that particular point of view. The slot’s theme is supposed to be creepy or Halloween, but things really are just bland more than anything else. It’s disappointing that the designers aren’t able to get it together, but we simply can’t praise what’s on offer here.
The other issue with some slots is that their mathematical models are rarely transparent. In this particular case, we know essentially nothing about what’s inside, and that’s really disappointing.
After Dark Slot Features
There are as many as 11 symbols in After Dark, which is a lot, especially given that there are just 5 paylines for you to work with. In any case, they are divided into 6 low pays, 3 mid pays, and 2 high pays. The low pays that are on offer show just card ranks from Nines to Aces, and they are worth up to 16x your bet per combination. As you can see, symbol payouts are on the higher side here, and that’s certainly a positive. Getting back to the actual symbols, we have mid pays with crows, cats, and goats. Those pay up to 128x your bet per combination. Finally, you can also look forward to bats and vampires. Vampires are worth the most, and you’ll get 500x your bet for a five-of-a-kind combination. Notably, cats, goats, bats, and vampires all pay even for sets of just two matching symbols.
For special symbols, there are Fang Wilds that can substitute for other symbols in order to form winning combinations. Even better, they work as Expanding Wilds, though they expand only when part of a winning combination.
The Win Multiplier feature is the other bonus feature here, and you can get to it only by filling the first 3, 4, or 5 reels with matching symbols of Nines, Tens, Jacks, or Queens. If you manage to do that, you’ll get a global win multiplier of 3x, 4x, or 5x, respectively. That’s a pleasant boost, though don’t expect to get to it all that often.
Review Summary
To sum things up, After Dark is one of those run-of-the-mill slots that you just play for a while and then forget about. Its visuals are pretty subpar, though, and we don’t know anything about its math model, so we’d definitely relegate it to one of the lower tiers overall. Honestly, some studios will need to step up massively in order to compete with the best!
