12 Fortune Dragons Review
We’ve just navigated through a tumultuous Year of the Dragon and seemingly allowed themselves to be inspired, delivering their very first Asian-themed game called 12 Fortune Dragons. It features a menacing-looking golden dragon behind the 5x3 grid, all set against a red tapestry backdrop with animated clouds floating by. The classic Chinese soundtrack is pleasing to the ear, and tempting Epic Strike jackpots are stacked up on the left-hand side.
You start by choosing your bet level between €0.20 to €80 per spin, catering to both low-risk players and high rollers. Regular line wins come about by landing at least 3 matching symbols across up to 20 paylines, starting from the leftmost reel towards the right. The golden triple 8 symbol is the highest payer, followed by double 8, single 8, any 8s, and 4 carved animal statues. The symbols pay 1.2x to 50x your stake for 5 of a kind wins.
The Wild symbol substitutes for any regular pay symbol to help complete or improve line wins while also being collected to potentially trigger the Epic Strike Bonus Feature. Epic Strike scatters can deliver instant jackpots up to the game’s max win, keeping you on your toes as this can happen on any given base game spin. These jackpots are also achievable in the Epic Strike Bonus Feature, as well as in the bonus round.
Speaking of, the bonus round is all about collecting so-called Collect symbols that look like Chinese drums, as this is how you upgrade the feature to the next level. There are 8 levels in total, and each level-up increases the achieved Epic Strike prize, expands the grid, and resets the free spins tally. Up to a 5x10 grid is possible, increasing the number of win ways to 48. The 96 % RTP is fairly average, and you can win up to 3,000x your stake in 12 Fortune Dragons slot.
12 Fortune Dragons Features
There are plenty of features to cover in 12 Fortune Dragons, and most revolve around the Epic Strike prizes. Let’s check it all out!
Rising Rewards Free Spins Multiplier
The Rising Reward Multiplier increases by +x1 each time you land 2 free spin scatters on reels 2 and 3 in the base game. This multiplier cannot go higher than x10 and it only applies to regular line wins in your next bonus round. The multiplier cannot increase during the bonus round, however, and it resets to x1 when you return to the base game. It can also randomly reset to x2, x3, or x4 instead of x1.
Epic Strike Prizes
The Epic Strike feature triggers when you land at least 3 Epic Strike scatter symbols anywhere in view. The Epic Strike jackpots are stacked up on the left-hand side, ranging from 1x your stake for 3 Epic Strike scatters to 3,000x your stake for 12 Epic Strike scatters. The Wild symbol does not substitute for Epic Strike scatters, and Epic Strike scatters appear only in the base game.
Epic Strike Bonus Feature
Wild symbols are collected in the Epic Strike pot below the prizes, and each time a Wild is collected there is a chance it will trigger the Epic Strike Bonus Feature. This awards an Epic Strike prize between 5x and 3,000x your stake or the bonus round. The Epic Strike Bonus Feature cannot trigger in the bonus round.
12 Fortune Dragons Free Spins
You need 3 free spin symbols anywhere in view on the same base game spin to trigger the Bonus Round in 12 Fortune Dragons slot, and free spin symbols can only appear on reels 2, 3, and 4. You start with 3 free spins on Bonus Level 1, and there are 8 different bonus levels. You upgrade to the next level by collecting the required number of Collect symbols:
Each time you advance to a higher bonus level the free spins tally resets to 3 again, and this also awards a cash prize and expands the grid with 1 extra row. Here is an overview of how it works:
- Bonus Level 1 - comes with a prize of 4x your stake.
- Bonus Level 2 - requires 5 collected Collect symbols and awards a cash prize of 5x your stake.
- Bonus Level 3 - requires 10 more collected Collect symbols and awards a cash prize of 15x your stake.
- Bonus Level 4 - requires 15 more collected Collect symbols and awards a cash prize of 25x your stake.
- Bonus Level 5 - requires 20 more collected Collect symbols and awards a cash prize of 50x your stake.
- Bonus Level 6 - requires 25 more collected Collect symbols and awards a cash prize of 100x your stake.
- Bonus Level 7 - requires 35 more collected Collect symbols and awards a cash prize of 250x your stake.
- Bonus Level 8 - requires 55 more collected Collect symbols and awards a cash prize of 1,000x your stake.
If you collect 70 Collect symbols in Bonus Level 8, you win a cash prize worth 3,000x your stake. Extra Collect symbols don't carry over to the next level. You'll start each new level with a fresh count. The bonus round is over when you run out of free spins or when you achieve the 3,000x top prize. You will only win 1 cash prize per bonus round, according to the level you’ve achieved when the feature ends. You win +1 extra free spin for each Extra Spin symbol that lands on reel 5.
12 Fortune Dragons Bonus Buy (not UK)
The Bonus Buy feature is available in eligible regions, and you’ll find the purple button down to the left. You can choose to pay 50x your stake to get the bonus round with an x1 win multiplier, or 150x your stake to get the maxed out x10 win multiplier. The Rising Rewards multiplier is not affected by the Bonus Buy feature.
Theme & Graphics
The 12 Fortune Dragons game comes with a typical Asian theme, complete with a red tapestry backdrop and a gold-colored dragon rearing its menacing head above the grid. The Epic Strike jackpots are displayed on a red scroll with golden patterns, with the dragon’s tail swaying gently behind it. Each win is highlighted by neat symbol animations as well as a shower of gold coins, as clouds pass by in the background. The typical Oriental soundtrack adds to the exotic vibe, creating a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.

Our Verdict
It’s been a while since I reviewed moderately successful debut release, and judging from their limited portfolio, the partner hasn’t been super busy in the interim. 12 Fortune Dragons is their first stab at the Asian genre, following a trilogy of star-spangled American-themed classic slots, so needless to say, the contrast is about as stark as it gets.
As usual with Oriental-style games, it boils down to whether you’re up for this kind of experience or not. I’m not a huge fan of this genre myself, just to be clear and honest upfront. The pan flute soundtrack is admittedly relaxing, but overall, the theme and visuals of 12 Fortune Dragons slot are exactly what you would expect from this type of game. The dragon character feels somewhat unnecessary in a game like this, and it draws your attention away from the somewhat small grid.
The pace of the game is decent with the turbo switched on, but I still found myself hammering the spin button to speed things up even more. The Rising Reward multiplier rewards loyalty and helps build anticipation, but let’s face it, you seldom win anything substantial from regular line wins in the bonus round anyway. Sure, if you get to the x10 multiplier things may heat up a bit, but the 150x price tag on the x10 bonus buy feature reveals the expected average return.
That being said, the bonus round is kind of entertaining, but only if you can stomach the sluggish pace. Each level up is highlighted with tons of bells and whistles, and you need to click ‘Continue’ each time to start at the next level. This gets annoying after a while, or at least it did for me, and as I said, don’t expect much in terms of returns outside of the bonus round prize you achieve. Being able to win up to 3,000x your stake is decent in the instant jackpot genre, but far from the highest potential we’ve seen.
