Our Verdict
The popularity of the instant scatter prize concept is still going relatively strong, but it feels like the whole thing peaked a while ago. At least that’s the sense I get, but I still expect plenty of new installments from different providers for years to come. This slot however, is a reskin of another game, not adding anything new except the overused ancient Egypt visuals.
While this is hardly the height of creativity from this studio, at least they don’t resort to churning out copycats, like so many other providers do. The visuals get the job done but are not up there with what we know is capable of. Having 3 different explorer characters is a tad unusual, also, but with no backstory, it’s hard to get truly immersed in the experience. I did like the soundtrack though, not least since it avoids the usual ancient Egypt clichés we hear all the time.
What makes the original game and 10 Pharaohs stand out positively is the combination of instant prize and jackpot symbols. Having the jackpot symbols pay their prize while also counting as instant prize scatters is a great addition to this popular feature, and it can certainly be lucrative as well. Speaking of, the max win has been bumped up to 10,663x the stake, a significant improvement compared to the original game.
That being the case, I would prefer 10 Pharaohs over the other game, but neither of the two comes across as something I would pursue outside of reviewing them. Unlocking extra rows in the bonus round just isn’t all that thrilling, but it helps a bit that this also awards extra free spins. However, if you are a fan of the instant scatter prize feature, 10 Pharaohs offers something a bit different that may appeal to certain players.
